In December 2009, the social housing sector lost a dedicated colleague and tireless advocate in Kathleen Blinkhorn. To celebrate her memory, ONPHA, with the support of Kathleen’s family, developed the Kathleen Blinkhorn Aboriginal Student Scholarship to commemorate her work developing Aboriginal housing programs and working with Aboriginal communities.

Each year, ONPHA awards up to five students with a scholarship in the amount of $1,000 for uses including tuition, books, technology (laptop, etc.) and transportation.

Applicants are eligible for the scholarship if they meet all of the following criteria:

  • are an Aboriginal student currently living in non-profit housing in Ontario
  • are enrolled in a college, university or private trade school recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities
  • have a full-time or part-time (minimum 60 per cent) course load

NOTE: Tenants living in co-operative housing are not eligible for the scholarship.
